L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science”
Honors Six Outstanding Researchers from the Levant,
Showcasing Their Inspiring Role in Building a Sustainable Future
The L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” program honored six young researchers from the Levant at its 11th edition, held on February 13, 2025, in Beirut. These awardees, selected from a pool of 100 candidates, represent a variety of disciplines and come from Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Palestine. They are recognized for overcoming regional challenges and playing a key role in scientific progress.
The event emphasized the importance of women in science, with speeches highlighting the resilience of Lebanese women despite the country’s challenges. The program, part of a global initiative launched in 1998, aims to enhance the role of women in science and inspire future generations. Over 4,400 women researchers have been recognized globally through this initiative.
This year’s awardees include postdoctoral researchers such as Dr. Myriam El Khoury from Lebanon and Dr. Ahlam Zaid AlKilani from Jordan, as well as PhD candidates like Dr. Rim Bourgi from Lebanon and Mrs. Amani Audi from Palestine. The ceremony also featured prominent speakers, including Emilie Wahab Harb from L’Oréal and Dr. Tamara El Zein, Minister of Environment in Lebanon. The event attracted over 300 attendees, showcasing the vital role of women scientists in the region’s future.
