Rebirth Beirut lights up the streets of the capital

“Light Your Street” brings life and soul back to the beating heart of Lebanon

Day after day, Rebirth Beirut proves that its presence is more than necessary, especially in these difficult days that Lebanon is going through.

The “Light Your Street” initiative, which was launched on the evening of Sunday, May 22nd, in front of the association’s headquarters in Gemmayzeh, in the presence of a large number of dignitaries and events, and under the patronage of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, demonstrated the importance of civil and local society’s commitment to returning the city to the heart of the event and interest.

Mr. Cappy Fernini, President of Rebirth Beirut, considered in his speech that Beirut deserves all this attention because it and its people deserve life.

He said: “We are launching the “Light Your Street” initiative in cooperation with Medco, which will provide incentives to owners of generators and buildings that have been involved in the initiative. I also thank the local community support program funded by the US Agency for International Development, which supplied and installed 500 LED lighting devices in Beirut’s most affected streets after Harbor Explosion.

In turn, Ms. Michel Shammas, Director of Innovations at Medco, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying: “Our dream is for Beirut to live and to remain alive all our lives. radiant with joy and hope.”

In turn, the head of the Syndicate of Restaurants, Cafes, Nightclubs, and Patisserie in Lebanon, Captain Tony Al-Rami, considered: “This initiative comes in very difficult working conditions for the owners of institutions and in a country without a tourist capital without major hotels. Captain Al-Rami launched the Rebirth Beirut initiative in the name of all the sectors he represents, considering what the association and Mr. Fernini are doing in this exceptional time.

The closing speech was given by the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, who considered that the emergence of these initiatives comes due to the weakness and absence of a strong state. If we had a state, we wouldn’t need to “paint its walls, turn on traffic lights, or even light the streets. I consider that the president of the Rebirth Beirut Association, Kabi Fernini, is a man, not all men. He is the owner of all the beautiful initiatives that restore confidence and vitality to Beirut, which we love.”

At the end of the meeting, the aforementioned streets, Gemmayzeh, Mar Mikhael, and Pasteur, were lit in the hope that the project would be completed to include 10 other neighborhoods.
