Cynthia Flouty on Leadership, Operational Excellence, and Hospitality at Mövenpick Hotel Beirut

Cynthia Flouty, Director of Operations at Mövenpick Hotel Beirut, can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us about your journey so far?

My name is Cynthia Flouty, and I currently serve as the Director of Operations at Mövenpick Hotel Beirut under Accor management. My journey in hospitality has been built on passion, consistency, and a deep appreciation for people and service.

I began my career with a strong desire for sales which led me to work across different hotels. Over the years, I had the opportunity to grow within internationally recognized hotel groups, including IHG Hotels & Resorts and Accor, experiences that allowed me to develop both operational expertise and a global perspective on hospitality standards.

Returning to Mövenpick Hotel Beirut in a leadership role has been especially meaningful for me because this property is part of my professional story. Today, I focus on creating an environment where operational excellence, guest satisfaction, and team development go hand in hand. Hospitality is a constantly evolving industry, and I believe growth comes from remaining adaptable while staying committed to excellence every single day.

In your role overseeing operations at Mövenpick Hotel Beirut under Accor management, and with your previous experience within the same property, what is the first mindset or standard you set for yourself today?

The first mindset I set for myself every day is consistency with purpose. In hospitality, excellence is not achieved occasionally; it must be reflected in every guest interaction, every operational detail, and every team decision.

Having worked previously within the same property gives me a unique perspective because I understand both its legacy and its potential. My focus today is to ensure that operational standards are not only maintained but continuously elevated. Under Accor management, there is a strong culture of service excellence, innovation, and attention to detail, and I aim to translate these standards into a genuine guest experience that feels both international and deeply personal.

I also believe leadership starts with presence. Being visible, accessible, and engaged with both guests and colleagues creates trust and allows operations to run with greater precision and efficiency.

Having worked with international hospitality groups including IHG Hotels & Resorts and now Accor, what key experiences have shaped your professional evolution?

Working with international hospitality groups has given me the opportunity to experience different leadership cultures, operational systems, and guest expectations. Each environment taught me something valuable.

The combination of these experiences helped shape a leadership style that values both precision and human connection, because true hospitality is about creating memorable experiences while building strong teams behind the scenes.

Across your hospitality journey, what experience has most influenced the way you approach operations today?

One of the most influential aspects of my journey has been working through periods of operational pressure and uncertainty while maintaining service excellence. Hospitality teaches you very quickly that guests remember how you make them feel, especially during challenging moments.

Managing operations in a dynamic environment like Lebanon has strengthened my ability to remain calm, solution-oriented, and highly adaptable. It taught me the importance of preparation, communication, and teamwork.

Those experiences shaped the way I approach operations today: with resilience, anticipation, and a strong belief that leadership is about supporting your team so they can perform confidently under any circumstance.

What is a personal principle in hospitality that you apply even when it goes beyond formal standards or expectations?

For me, hospitality begins with genuine care. Standards and procedures are essential, but true hospitality happens when people feel sincerely welcomed, valued, and understood.

I strongly believe in leading by example. Respect, professionalism, and empathy should be visible not only in guest relations but also internally among teams. When employees feel respected and supported, that energy naturally reflects in the guest experience

In your experience with hotels managed by international chains, when you enter a property, what is the first detail you notice that reflects operational excellence?

The first thing I notice is the atmosphere created by the team. Operational excellence is immediately visible through the energy, confidence, and professionalism of employees.

In high-pressure moments, how do you personally define precision when every decision carries immediate impact?

In high-pressure situations, precision means staying calm enough to think clearly while acting quickly and responsibly.

Hospitality operations often require immediate decisions, and precision is not only about accuracy; it is also about timing, communication, and understanding priorities.

Coming from a family with ties to sports in Lebanon, can you tell us more about that background and your connection to basketball?

Sports have always been part of my environment growing up, especially basketball. Coming from a family connected to sports in Lebanon gave me early exposure to values such as discipline, commitment, resilience, and teamwork

How has your connection to basketball influenced your perspective on discipline, teamwork, and performance?

Basketball, in particular, is a sport that requires focus, strategy, and collective performance, qualities that strongly resonate with hospitality operations.

It also taught me the importance of preparation and consistency because success is rarely the result of individual effort alone.
