Despite the degraded security situation in South Lebanon, the peacekeepers of the Force Commander Reserve are continuing their concrete projects on the ground, for the benefit of the inhabitants of South Lebanon. After months of exchanges and weeks of work, on Tuesday May 7, the Paris firefighters detachment (DSPP) of the FCR and the firefighters of the Lebanese civil defense of Tire carried out a joint exercise to symbolize the implementation in operation of the fire training complex. which perfectly illustrates the commitment of the French and Italian contingents to the Lebanese people.
Last year, the Italian contingent of UNIFIL donated the framework of this training complex, made up of several containers, to the firefighters of the Tire barracks. After numerous discussions with the Lebanese civil defense firefighters and thanks to the operational expertise of the FCR firefighters, two courses were created: a comfort course to develop the ability to operate in a confined environment with respiratory system and a reconnaissance course in a stale atmosphere. So for weeks, the engineers and barracks, the infrastructure engineers and the FCR firefighters used the tools with enthusiasm and precision on this structure which will allow the firefighters of the Tire barracks to train in conditions close to reality.
To symbolize the completion of this great collective project, Colonel Christophe de Ligniville, commander of the Force Commander Reserve of UNIFIL was present alongside the Lebanese authorities: General Khattar, responsible for Lebanese civil defense, Mr. Mohammad Jaffal, Caimacan of Tire and Mr. Hassan Dbouk, mayor of Tire and representatives of the Union of town halls of the Casa de Tyr. In front of the present assembly, the Lebanese and French firefighters carried out a joint exercise to rescue three victims. These victims were then cared for by French, Lebanese and Finnish medical teams. This demonstration perfectly illustrated Franco-Lebanese cooperation and the potential of this training complex.
These concrete actions of the FCR directly contribute to maintaining and strengthening the historical links which unite the peacekeepers with the Lebanese authorities and populations. For more than 40 years, the FCR has been present alongside the Lebanese. Through this action, French soldiers support the Lebanese civil defense firefighters, engaged on a daily basis for the benefit of their fellow citizens despite a particularly difficult security, economic and social context. This collective achievement illustrates the unwavering links between the Franco-Italian contingents of UNIFIL and Lebanon.
