AIA: New Hybrid and Electric Cars, a Dual Protection for Consumers and the EnvironmentBeirut.

The Association of Automobile Importers (AIA) ,representing globalautomotive manufacturers in Lebanon, commends the Lebanese legislature for renewing, in the2024 budget, reductions and exemptions on certain taxes for the importation and registration ofnew hybrid and electric vehicles, initially introduced in 2018.This decision aligns with the actions taken by developed countries with the aim of reducing pollutionlevels and preserving the environment, while decreasing the oil bill. In order to inform and protectLebanese consumers, the AIA specifies the following:Firstly, investing in new hybrid and electric vehicles ensures optimal safety for consumers. Thesevehicles come equipped with new batteries, meet all safety standards, and protect passengers fromhazards. Additionally, investing in a new vehicle shields consumers from the potentially high andunexpected cost of battery replacement, warranted by the manufacturer through its authorizeddealer for a period ranging from 6 to 8 years. Furthermore, in case of battery failure during thiswarranty period, it is systematically replaced with an appropriate battery at the manufacturer’sexpense at authorized service centers.Secondly, investing in new hybrid and electric vehicles effectively eliminates the majorenvironmental risks associated with battery recycling during their replacement process. OfficialLebanese importing companies are firmly committed to global manufacturers and ensure recyclingin accordance with the strictest international norms.Thirdly, investing in new electric and hybrid vehicles, through authorized dealers, ensures consumerprotection and peace of mind. In this context, the association reiterates the importance, ashighlighted in its previous statement, of ensuring the existence of an original manufacturer’swarranty before purchase. Only authorized companies, representing global automotivemanufacturers in Lebanon, are capable of protecting consumers with reliable warranties, originalspare parts, regular maintenance, and electronic system checks, as well as conducting recallcampaigns.About the association: AIA brings together authorized representatives of all global automotivemanufacturers in Lebanon. Since 1923, it has responsibly acted for regulating the market andimportation of new vehicles in Lebanon, leveraging the experience of its member companies toserve consumers, ensuring their protection and safety while contributing to sector development.
